The Wantage Silver Band Print E-mail
Until our new Band Hall is built on Tugwell Field, The Wantage Silver Band is very grateful to be able to use the Childrey Methodist Church for some of its practices. Both our ‘A’ and ‘B’ bands use this venue fairly regularly for rehearsals – the older members repairing to the Hatchet afterwards!

The ‘A’ band is a leading Championship section band; the ‘B’ band competes in the 4th section; both give Concerts, play at fetes, take part in Marches, etc. Both bands have a link with Childrey through the Chapman family, recently moved to Waterside Cottage, Stow Hill – Steve Chapman is principal cornet of the ‘A’ band, with wife Judith the solo horn player; their children Sam and Josie currently hold the same positions in the ‘B’ band.

In addition to the two Contest Bands, the Wantage Silver Band organisation has a Concert Band (whose recent Xmas Concert raised approx £3000 for the Muscular Dystrophy charity), a thriving Youth Band, training bands and beginners groups.

The Wantage Silver Band welcomes new players, both new and experienced, both young and old; beginners classes are mostly on Saturday mornings (there is even an adult beginners group). Instrument and tuition are provided for a termly subscription. Please contact the Bandmaster, Eileen Sykes tel. 01235 767541 (email ) for details.

The Band is a Registered Charity, and has its own website: www.wantageband.org
