The venue for the tearfund lunch had to be changed at very short notice. It will be held at the home of Pat & Brian Winsley, Paddocks End, West Street.

As a rule, the family (united) service in Childrey, when held at the Methodist chapel, is always 11am. It is 10am when at St Mary's. This month the 5th (like last month the 1st) the service time in the Childrey Ridgeway box says 10 am, whiolst the Methodist list is 11am.

Childrey is fortunate to have a well-drained playing field close to the village. All local residents are welcome to use any part of it for playing and recreation. However there is a charge to use the football pitch for organised matches, which helps to defray some of the running costs.

 

The new and vastly improved Childrey Pavilion was completed in 2008 and incorporates changing rooms, (home, away and referees) with shower facilities, toilets, a function room and kitchen complete with cooking facilities. The pavilion can be booked for private parties, club meetings or other such functions by contacting Liz Rutter on 01235 751614. (Please note the pavilion does not have a bar or entertainments licence). The childrens play area adjacent to the pavilion has also been extensively improved with all new play equipment thanks to extensive fundraising. The site now offers something for all ages and includes swings, a fort, climbing net and zip wire.....and a picnic table for supervising adults! The playing field is home to two regular football teams which play every weekend throughout the season. They are THE OLD HAS BEENS and CHILDREY UNITED. The playing field is also used by CHILDREY JUNIOR FOOTBALL CLUB who in recent years has had a very successful team which competed up to Under 15s. They currently run fun training sessions for children aged 5 to 11 years on a Tuesday afternoon and are aiming to have an U11s team in place for next season. The playing field also accommodates a girls’ football club for winter training.

PLEASE NOTE THAT FOR REASONS OF HYGIENE THE PLAYING FIELD IS A DOG FREE ZONE.
